3 Essential habits you need to succeed as an entrepreneur or changemaker

By Lindsay Hindle | Mind

Do you feel like a chicken with it’s head cut off? Are you fish out of water? Do you feel like you have so much to do that you need 6 additional hands to get it all done?

Don’t fret, because all entrepreneurs feel this way at one time or another. Running a business is tough with so many things to do, you can lose sight of the big picture and your business goals. Thankfully, there is a simple formula to help pave your way to success. Wanna hear it?

Here are three essential habits you need to succeed as an entrepreneur:

Habit #1: Focus your feelings

As humans we’re driven by our emotions, and that’s not always a bad thing…until it impacts your decisions.

As an entrepreneur, your whole life is invested in your business so you want to see it succeed. When the stakes are high, emotions often come to the surface. To be successful you need to listen to your feelings but not be controlled by them.

Habit #2: Focus your attention

With so much on their plate, entrepreneurs often have a hard time focusing on the task at hand. I’ll admit I struggle with this one sometimes.

Would you rather do lots of things just “ok” or do one thing really well? By now we KNOW mutli-tasking is a sure way to NOT get quality work done. If you’re going to get something done, put all your focus on it for an hour and nothing else. Pretty logical, right?

Consider a home baker in her kitchen. What happens when she tries to make a batch of chocolate chip cookies, a loaf of banana bread, and a lasagne…at the same time? Because she’s not 100% focused, she may mix up ingredients or proportions. No one wants to eat lasagne with sliced banana instead of noodles!

And the truth is, this logic needs to be transferred to the big picture too. How many goals you set in a timeframe can get way out of hand, slicing your energy into tiny fragments. Bill Gates spoke the truth when he said “Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.”

Habit #3: Taking deliberate action

You’ve got the same 24 hours every day as me. To be successful, it’s important to prioritize your time with deliberate actions. Deliberate actions include anything you need to reach your goal.

In your business, you need to decide what activities are most likely to increase your ROI, to raise your company profile, or to meet any other business goals you have. This will help you prioritize and be more intentional with your time and resources.

Mastering these 3 habits will give you a firm foundation to grow your business. Thankfully, I know someone who can help you develop the right habits as an entrepreneur. Panicked ending or setting up for success?

By Lindsay Hindle | Focus , Mind , Performance

Prepare yourself! I’m going to share something that may shock you. Ready? Here it comes…

It’s almost the end of 2018!

I know right? When I told you that, did you think “Duh, I already knew that Lindsay,” or did you say “Holy pineapple Batman! I have so much to do I need to drop everything and finish my 2018 goals!”

Now, you can choose panic and look for quick wins to accomplish your goals, but that’s not setting yourself up for success longer term.

One of the most common reasons we don’t accomplish our goals is that we haven’t set ourselves up with the right habits to achieve those goals.

Outdated goal-oriented thinking

In school we’re taught how to set goals, but not how to achieve goals (2 very different skill sets). This often forces us into deadly cycle:

  • January: Goals are written down. We’re motivated and full of energy.
  • May: We are making slow progress towards our goals, but not as fast as we planned. We’re mildly optimistic but losing our drive.
  • September: Our goal progress has stalled or been forgotten on a shelf. We feel deflated and give up…until Jan 1 when we make new goals start the cycle again!

How do we avoid this trap? By establishing healthy, sustainable habits that can help us achieve our goals!

Why habits are important

Sarah wants to lose 50 pounds by December 31. Sure she can jump on the latest fad diet where you eat 1 liquified food item for 14 days straight. That might help her reach her goal quickly, but is this sustainable (or healthy) to do long term?

However, if Sarah, focuses on overall healthier eating and exercise habits, it may take a little longer to reach her goal, but she’s less likely to fall back into old habits and put the weight on again.

Like popular diets, quick fixes to reach your goals don’t often create sustainable habits.

This means, if you work your butt off between now and December just so you can say you accomplished your goals, sure you may get them all done, but have you actually created habits that can sustain you long into 2019 and beyond?

Fall is the best time to establish THE RIGHT habits so you can hit the ground running (or maybe jogging to start) in January with your New Year’s resolutions.

But Lindsay, you ask, what exactly are the RIGHT HABITS?

Well, I’m glad you asked because I answer that very question in my new online masterclass:
