Do you feel like a chicken with it’s head cut off? Are you fish out of water? Do you feel like you have so much to do that you need 6 additional hands to get it all done?
Don’t fret, because all entrepreneurs feel this way at one time or another. Running a business is tough with so many things to do, you can lose sight of the big picture and your business goals. Thankfully, there is a simple formula to help pave your way to success. Wanna hear it?
Here are three essential habits you need to succeed as an entrepreneur:
Habit #1: Focus your feelings
As humans we’re driven by our emotions, and that’s not always a bad thing…until it impacts your decisions.
As an entrepreneur, your whole life is invested in your business so you want to see it succeed. When the stakes are high, emotions often come to the surface. To be successful you need to listen to your feelings but not be controlled by them.
Habit #2: Focus your attention
With so much on their plate, entrepreneurs often have a hard time focusing on the task at hand. I’ll admit I struggle with this one sometimes.
Would you rather do lots of things just “ok” or do one thing really well? By now we KNOW mutli-tasking is a sure way to NOT get quality work done. If you’re going to get something done, put all your focus on it for an hour and nothing else. Pretty logical, right?
Consider a home baker in her kitchen. What happens when she tries to make a batch of chocolate chip cookies, a loaf of banana bread, and a lasagne…at the same time? Because she’s not 100% focused, she may mix up ingredients or proportions. No one wants to eat lasagne with sliced banana instead of noodles!
And the truth is, this logic needs to be transferred to the big picture too. How many goals you set in a timeframe can get way out of hand, slicing your energy into tiny fragments. Bill Gates spoke the truth when he said “Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.”
Habit #3: Taking deliberate action
You’ve got the same 24 hours every day as me. To be successful, it’s important to prioritize your time with deliberate actions. Deliberate actions include anything you need to reach your goal.
In your business, you need to decide what activities are most likely to increase your ROI, to raise your company profile, or to meet any other business goals you have. This will help you prioritize and be more intentional with your time and resources.
Mastering these 3 habits will give you a firm foundation to grow your business. Thankfully, I know someone who can help you develop the right habits as an entrepreneur.
